Summer Go Camp

July 6th – 9th, 2023

at the homestead “Prie Labanoro”, Slabada, Molėtai district, Lithuania

This year, the Summer Go Camp will take place on July 6-9  at the homestead “Prie Labanoro” in Slabada, Molėtai district. It is the same place the Camp took place the last year.

The homestead is located by the Labanoras forest on the southwestern shore of Šlavinas lake.

We believe that, as last year, we will have a lot of fun playing go, having other activities, and just spending time together.

As a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Russian and Belarusian go players will not be admitted to the Camp.
Registration is already open. Please register as soon as possible.

Rengo Tournament

Tournament director: Albertas Petrauskas

Tournament referee: Albertas Petrauskas

Registration for the tournament will take place on-site right before the tournament.

Tournament fee: none (included in the camp registration fee).

Tournament schedule:

  • 9:30 Registration
  • 10:00 Round 1
  • 12:00 Round 2
  • 14:00 Lunch time break
  • 15:00 Round 3
  • 17:00 Round 4

Playing system and rules:

  • Handicap tournament, straight handicap, no top group, all games will be played with a handicap up to a maximum of 9 stones. For a rank difference of 0 or 1, color is decided by nigiri.
  • 4 rounds. Playing time per team: 30 minutes basic time, 2 periods of 30 seconds byo-yomi (Japanese). Japanese rules.
  • Komi: 6.5 for even games, 0.5 for handicap games.
  • A team must consist of two players, of any gender. The rank of the weakest player of the team cannot be higher than 4 kyu. The game is played between two teams on one go board. Two players of a team sit beside each other, facing an opposing team across the go board.
  • The average strength of a team: add all dan grades and subtract all kyu grades, then divide the result by 2. The maximum average rank is 5.5 dan (professionals counting as 8 dan).
  • During the game, players of the team must not communicate, give advice, or exchange other information by speech, gestures, mannerisms, or any other means except playing moves. Speaking is permitted, however, to confirm whose turn it is to play or confer about resigning. Conferring about resigning is limited to the following: the player to move may ask for his/her teammate’s consent to resign; the teammate may agree or not agree to resign.
  • Resignation is announced by the player whose turn it is to move. The player’s teammate cannot retract the resignation.
  • If the wrong player plays, causing a departure from normal rotation, this is called a rotation error. A rotation error can be claimed only when the move just played was out of rotation. If the claimed rotation error was intentional, the game is forfeited immediately. If the claimed rotation error was unintentional, the next step is to verify which player played the preceding move. If the preceding move was played in normal rotation, the game continues with a three-point penalty for the claimed rotation error by giving three own stones to the opposing team. If the preceding move was not played in normal rotation, the game continues without any penalty for the claimed rotation error. In either case, no moves are taken back and replayed. The last move played is regarded as having been played by the correct player. The next move must be played in normal rotation with the last move played. Whenever a rotation error is detected, the next player must return to normal rotation. Failure to do so is regarded as a new rotation error.
  • Criteria used for final ranking:
    • McMahon score
    • SOS (Sum of Opponents’ Scores)
    • SOSOS (Sum of Opponents’ SOS)
    • direct comparison.
  • Any disputes and problems will be settled by the referee.
